Probably the castle was built in the 11th century to protect the over the Haßberg comb running high road, the Rennweg, to protect the trade route between Bamberg and Fulda. The Bramberger knights, however, did not keep to this task, but acted on the contrary as a highwayman and robber.

Today you can enjoy a beautiful view of the region from the 500 meter high basalt summit of Bramberges.

The stretch is something for adventure. After plowing through a Hawester you will not find a way and no markings. But your shoes are totally dirty. Hope the foresters are here to quickly remedy. Of course you could also sign a detour, but then the adventure is missing.
