      A tower only about 4 meters high, which used to be used as a viewing platform. Nowadays you can only enjoy this view to a limited extent.
      The front entrance was bricked up for security reasons.

      It is reported that Merkel and his family members moved up to the Owl Tower on New Year's Eve. A “Feuerzangenbowle” was prepared there and the last glass was emptied from the glistening valley at midnight with the bell ringing. Merkel introduced the beautiful custom of ringing bells on New Year's Eve in Göttingen.

          The Eulenturm is a lookout point in the Göttingen forest immediately east of the built-up area of the city of Göttingen in the district of Oststadt. It lies on the lower slope of the Hainberg above the Schillerwiese on a ridge between the valleys Molkengrund in the north and Lange Nacht in the south. The round tower built into the hillside with a viewing platform made of limestone and sandstone has a height of about 4 meters. The ground-level tower entrance in the front area was walled up for safety reasons. The Eulenturm was built at the end of the 19th century by the Göttinger Beautification Association as part of the design of the Hainberg to a recreational area in the manner of a Volksgartens.

While in the winter, without foliage on the trees, one can still guess which view one could enjoy in the past, the city of Göttingen can no longer be seen in summer. By the way, if you are looking for the Owl of the Owl Tower, you have to look from the front to the bottom. ;-)
