One of the numerous buildings on the estate in Jersbek is the ice cellar. Used for over two centuries, it was finally disused after World War II.

The massive thatched oak roof truss withstood wind and weather for several decades. However, the last exposed timbers collapsed during the severe storm in the winter of 1978/79. Since the supra-local importance of the ice cellar had been recognized and acknowledged, the municipality of Jersbek decided to restore the ice cellar in 1979.

They commissioned landscape architects to prepare the project and raised the necessary funds. With the involvement of numerous sponsors, the unique ice cellar structure was completely restored in 1984.

The ice cellar in Jersbek, most likely built in 1736/37, is still a relic of the pre-industrial era in today's environment dominated by technology and, in particular, machines.
