Little is known about the construction history of the main building and the outbuildings on the Zelle. In 1792, a radical renovation (possibly even rebuilding) of the house took place on behalf of the then owners (the Grothe family). This year is stated in the wind vane on the roof of the Zelle. The outbuildings from 1787 and 1790 indicate that a substantial house already existed at this location before that time. The Van Dorth tot Medler family drastically changed the house around 1840, so shortly after the purchase. The building will then have the current façade, which will add another floor to the front, and the double gable roof will be replaced by the current roof construction. On the inside, the layout has not changed since then, which is special for houses from this period.

The heart of the estate consists of an ancient landscape with avenues, forests, old solitary trees, paths and water features and the monumental Huize Zelle with beautiful outbuildings. This area of approximately 94 hectares has been fully designated as a national monument. see landgoedzelle.nl/het-landgoed
