Michelbach is a district of Schotten in the Vogelsberg district in central Hesse.
The place is on the edge of the Vogelsberg, 2 km east of the main town. District road 103 runs along the northern edge of the town.
The oldest known written mention of Michelbach occurred between 750 and 802 under the name Michelembach in the Codex Eberhardi.
#The place was initially desolate, but was repopulated from 1495 onwards.
“In 1495, Landgrave Wilhelm III. of Hesse four men the desert Michelbach near Schotten with fields, meadows, trees, fields, water, pasture, and all accessories in the field mark Michelbach ".
Michelbach, together with the Elbershausen desert, with Schotten, Rainrod, Betzenrod, Götzen, Rudingshain and Breungeshain, belonged to the Scottish court in the Middle Ages. In 1533, Landgrave Philip of Hesse, among others, handed over the alms box and the new hospital in Schotten, the “Rode tithe” to “Getze” (Götzen), Michelbach and “Elbershußen.” During the Reformation period, Betzenrod, Götzen, Michelbach and Rudingshain belonged to the parish of Schotten.
On December 1, 1970, Michelbach was incorporated into the city of Schotten on a voluntary basis as part of the regional reform in Hesse.
