In the early Middle Ages, the Neckar was ruled by the bishops of Worms. Later, the Palatinate tried Haßmersheim enforce a traffic monopoly. On the then still unconstructed Neckar but thwarted the low water flow during the summer months a regulated shipping traffic. In Haßmersheim, the largest fishing village in southern Germany, the history of Neckar shipping is still alive today.

The "Landhotel am Treidelpfad" is in the "Middle Street" close to the marked position. A nice stop is possible here and there are also rooms for cyclists, ideal for those who are on the Neckartalradweg.

Unfortunately, no more ferry, but a foot and cycle path bridge to the other side of the Neckar. The Neckar Valley Cycle Path from the Neckarzimmetn lock continues along the Neckar with the loop around Böttingen and the Böttinger Loch.

Watch out, there's a lot of traffic! "Varied" right-of-way rules. Very popular place for walkers with dogs, SUVs, bus travelers, etc. It's pointless to try to plough through there. (Not very nice either, either.) So: take your foot off the gas, put your helmet on, drink, nibble on a bar and enjoy the view. After the town, you can let off steam again on a short sprint track.
