The service roads on both sides of the canal and the Herner Meer are great for mountain bikes and trekking bikes. A nice recreational opportunity and a good section for cycling and hiking tours.

"The sculpture reemrenreh is one of two parts of a joint work by the sculptor Bogomir Ecker and the composer Bülent Kullukcu, which was created for the major exhibition EMSCHERKUNST.2010.
Ecker's sculpture will remain installed in Herne beyond the three-month duration of the exhibition. Reemrenreh (hardly any singing) consists of three parts: a street lamp and two tower-like sculptures. The 16 meter high street lamp illuminates the other two parts of the sculpture at night and is naturally placed in the middle of the water - in the Herner Meer. The resulting enraptured, surreal effect is underlined by the fact that the oversized lantern does not serve as a yardstick, cannot help to clarify the proportions. The largest, yellow part of the ensemble easily towers above it by seven meters; the third, smallest part looks tiny at just under eight meters. The two "towers" next to the lantern are reminiscent of building blocks
