The memorial has a less cheerful background, as it represents the contributions that the rails made to the forced labor state of the 1940s. In 2006, this cycle path was discovered in the old track bed while it was being built. This was traced back to a railway line from 1944, which was built by Dutch forced laborers to bypass the bombed-out routes of Munich's Ostbahnhof. After completion, it did not go into operation until April 1944 and was dismantled again in 1946. The local railway association took the aforementioned discovery for this beautiful monument as an opportunity - it really looks great on the free stretch between Vaterstetten and Baldham!
