The very old church was probably built in the middle of the 13th century. It stands at the highest point in town and is probably the oldest building in Kürmreuth. In its origin it was probably built as early as the 12th century as the chapel of the former lord of the castle. Since 2010, the simultaneous church has been shining in new splendor after extensive interior and exterior renovation! The key can be received at the "Zur Post" country inn.

The Church of St. Laurentius is one of the 49 simultaneous churches in the former territory of Count Palatine Christian August von Sulzbach. From 1652 he introduced the Simultaneum, i.e. the use of a church by Protestants and Catholics. The Count Palatine also repealed the regulation that the subjects automatically had the denomination of their regents ("Cuius regio, eius religio" for "wes the prince, des der Glaub"). Before that, the population had changed religion with the respective ruler, in Sulzbach, for example, seven times. The simultaneum often ended at the beginning of the 20th century.
