The New Town Hall is not only a landmark, but also one of the city's most sought-after photo opportunities.
In 2013 the New Town Hall turned 100 years old!
What many visitors to Hanover think of a palace is in reality the New Town Hall: The magnificent Wilhelmine building from 1913 is today one of the landmarks of the Leine metropolis. “Everything paid in cash, your Majesty!” City director Heinrich Tramm proudly called out to Kaiser Wilhelm II at the inauguration. The city spent over ten million marks for its prestigious town hall, built on 6,026 beech piles.

The new town hall is still the seat of the mayor, the head of the Hanover city administration. This is where the political bodies meet, the official guests of the city are received, exhibitions are shown and the citizens' office is also at home here. However, the doors of the landmark are always open for a visit. And it's worth it just because of the magnificent view.

The New Town Hall in Hanover is the town hall of the Lower Saxony state capital and the headquarters of the Hanover city administration under its Lord Mayor. The Wilhelmine, palace-like magnificent building in eclectic style was built from 1901 to 1913. The city's first town hall was the old town hall, the buildings of which were built from 1230 onwards. In 1863 the city administration left the old town hall and moved to the nearby Wangenheimpalais.
The New Town Hall is embedded in the ten hectare Maschpark on the southern edge of the city center, outside the historic city center of Hanover. The square in front of the north-northeast-facing north wing is now called Trammplatz, was created specifically in connection with the town hall building and was named after Heinrich Tramm, the city director at the time. The south side of the building faces the Maschteich.
