The St. Laurentius Church has probably existed in the town since the 13th century. The right of patronage was initially exercised by the Split Canons' Monastery of St. Nicholas, to whom Conrad II, the Pious of Nuremberg, had given this church, among other things, as a gift in 1295.[7] The canons' monastery also had a tax-paying subject family in Wernsbach, as can be seen from the monastery's sal books from 1380, 1460 and 1549.[8]
In 1434, the Heilsbronn monastery acquired a meadow and subsequently three farms.[9]
