11 of the 46 individual buildings were built in 1872 on Werrastrasse as workers' housing estates for the wool laundry and combing shop Döhren AG. In 1886 there was an addition of four head buildings and the double row houses in Weserstraße. From 1903 to 1904 the cross street system and individual buildings between Werrastr. and Rheinstrasse built.
Usually one family lived on the ground floor and several workers in the attic. The last section from 1925 opened up part of the Kastanienallee. The particular attraction of the brick architecture is that it reflects more than 40 years of settlement architecture, while the older two-and-a-half-story components alternate classicist with neo-Romanesque style elements, while the buildings from the 1920s have little ornamentation. Their conservative design language fits seamlessly into the older construction phases. In the past 20 years the facility has been modernized and partially privatized.
