The history of the PALM brewery goes back to 1525.

The homestead that would later be called "De Hoorn" has been documented early in the history of Steenhuffel. In 1380 it is owned by Peter Vander Smessen. In the tax book of the Duke of Brabant, he is well described as a house with a court, located on the cemetery. Around 1525 old documents mention the name "De Hoorn". It is an inn run by Joos De Licht. But when Steenhuffel is faced with severe war violence in the last quarter of the 16th century, De Hoorn is burned. It would take several decades before the Mertens family as new owner re-erected the buildings. However, it was not an inn during that period. Around 1700 De Hoorn was inhabited by Urbaan Lecocq, a nobleman. He sold it well to Andries Van Doorselaer and Joanna Van Accoleyen, who would eventually start brewing there.
