According to this large sign, it should be 1139 miles in the direction of both Chicago and Los Angeles. Due to numerous route changes, local bypasses, route alternatives and the like, the information can hardly be traced back to the mile today.

In 1928 Zella Crim opened "Zella's", a cheap fast food restaurant. In the 1960s it was sold to Dub Edmonds and Jess Fincher and renamed "Jesse's Café". A larger building was erected, which is still in use today. The old complex next door now serves as a souvenir shop. In the heyday of Route 66, the café was open 24 hours a day. Today, it's the longest continuously running café along Route 66, Texas. Fran Houser took over the café in 1992 and has been serving her homemade ugly crust pie ever since. She is said to be modeled after the character "Flo" from Disney's animated film "Cars".
