The former Texaco gas station, built in 1933, lies in the wedge of the Y-shaped intersection where Route 66 separates from Broadway and thus from the main street through Davenport's Old Town.
Gasoline hasn't been sold here for a long time, so the Early Bird Café has moved here. The front porch is decorated with dozens of vintage Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas license plates. The oldest are from the 1920s.
