The "Vanäs" peninsula, or "Vanäs", is beautifully situated on the western side of Lake Vättern and is home to the Karlsborg fortress. Vanäs wonderfully combines unique nature with very interesting historical buildings. The Vanäs lighthouse, the old military hospital, the royal villa, the stone bridge and the "Ingenieur Park" can be found directly outside the fortress.

A hiking trail leads around the headland with a wonderful view of Lake Vättern. This landscape is crossed with small rivers and lakes. Here you can enjoy Sweden's second largest lake in all its glory, sometimes calm and smooth like a mirror, sometimes uninhibited and wild.

The park on this headland is home to more than 60 different tree species and shrubs. Some of them are native, but most have been introduced separately and are among the rarer species in Sweden. Nevertheless, this park thrives splendidly. It is the proximity to Lake Vättern that allows flora and fauna, trees and plants to thrive and multiply.
