The hurricane "Kyrill" raged over the Sauerland on January 18, 2007, leaving a trail of destruction.

At the Sorpesee a forest area - the "Kyrill-Wald" - reminds of this natural event. In an area of approx. 3 hectares in the forest, neither the tidying up nor the fallen trees were cleared up after the storm. For locals and tourists it is always worth seeing how such a piece of forest regenerates and develops by itself. In order to be able to closely observe the destruction and regeneration after such a storm, an accessible viewing platform and information boards were set up at this interesting location for interested visitors. The nature monument is located between Langscheid and Sundern. You can easily reach it from Langscheid via the dam along the east side of the lake at km 3.5 or via the local S-hiking trail.

The east bank of the Sorpe is much quieter than the west bank, because with the exception of the cars from the Ruhrverband no cars are allowed to drive there. A nice change is the stop at Kyrill-Wald, where you can find out about the effects of the hurricane on the forest over 10 years ago. :-)
