Johann Christoph Friedrich Schiller was born on November 10, 1759 on the ground floor of the modest Marbach craftsman's house at Niklastorstrasse 31, built at the beginning of the 18th century. The mother, Elisabetha Dorothea, had recently moved into the small apartment with her first child, Christophine, who was two years older. The father, Lieutenant Johann Caspar Schiller, mostly stayed at his regiment's station locations. It was only at the age of four, after moving from Marbach, that Friedrich Schiller learned about a regular family life.
