Friedrich Schiller was born in 1759 in this small, rather inconspicuous half-timbered building in Marbach am Neckar. Although Schiller moved after a few years with his parents to Lorch and Ludwigsburg, Marbach developed after Schiller's death to a place of worship of the poet. On the basis of a drawing you could even find the birthplace in 1812 and brought there a plaque that you can still admire today.

In Schiller's birthplace today is a small permanent exhibition in which you can learn a lot about Schiller's childhood and also about the former living conditions in Marbach. If you want to know more about Schiller, you should also visit the museum on Schillerhöhe.

Opening hours of the birthplace:
April to October daily 9am to 5pm
November to March daily 10am to 4pm

Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller (born November 10, 1759 in Marbach am Neckar, Württemberg, † May 9, 1805 in Weimar, Saxony-Weimar), ennobled in 1802, was a German poet, philosopher and historian. He is considered one of the most important German-speaking dramatists, poets and essayists. Many of his plays belong to the standard repertoire of German-speaking theaters. His ballads are among the most famous German poems.
With Wieland, Goethe and Herder, Schiller belongs to the four-star of Weimar Classicism.
He was by birth Württemberger, later became a citizen of Saxe-Weimar and received additional French citizenship in 1792, in recognition of his in Paris drama The robbers, which was understood as a struggle for freedom against tyranny. (c) Wikipedia 2015
