An abbey with a magnificent history that was built in the Carolingian period (first mentioned in 874) and abandoned several times from the late Middle Ages onwards: Guido of Arezzo (992-1050) refined his musical knowledge here and later laid the foundations for our musical notation in Arezzo. This is why this place is a must for musicians...
The abbey is a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture and one of the most important Romanesque building complexes in northern Italy. Particularly noteworthy are the basilica (9th-12th century), the monastery buildings (13th/14th century) and the campanile (1063) as well as frescoes from the 14th century.
