Very nice and interesting alternative route towards the Brenner Pass.

As an alternative to the Brenner highway highly recommended. Always a slight up and down. Only at the beginning there are a few steep climbs. Matrei then go on the Brenner highway. Until then, very little traffic.

Felix says it correctly, as a pure transfer route with luggage or backpack not really a good alternative if you already have a lot of km behind or in front of you. Heat can also be an issue, in the valley it can be shade. On weekdays I would recommend the old Brennerstrasse. If there is little traffic there is a better alternative, a more even gradient, also beautiful views and from Matrei to the south only on the Brenner road.
