The Lencois Maranhenses National Park is characterized by a dune landscape and desert climate. There is so much precipitation in the rainy season that the water cannot sink because of an impermeable stone surface. The innumerable and up to 40 meter high dunes fill with water and create a unique natural spectacle.
Rainy season: January to May
Dry season: June to December
The best travel time for a tour is usually the months of June to September, because then there is little rain and the dunes are well filled with water.
