The Danube-Ilz-Radweg shines through an interplay of different landscapes - from the extensive floodplains of the Danube it goes quite relaxed into the Bavarian Forest as the "green roof of Europe". Without the annoying traffic, you can enjoy nature in peace or visit the sights in the villages along the way, take a break in the beer garden or relax in the outdoor pool or bathing pond.
The cycle path is particularly suitable for families and leisurely cyclists, which are led up to the foothills of the Bavarian Forest on many flat stages and gentle, even inclines.
It leads from the Danube in Niederalteich to Hengersberg and from there on a former railway line through the Sonnenwald and the Dreiburgenland into the Ilztal near Hutthurm / Kalteneck. Abandoned railway lines are ideally suited as cycle paths due to the slight inclines and the strong compaction of the subsoil.
From Kalteneck it goes on quiet side streets with hilly passages to the connection to the Adalbert-Stifter-Radweg in Bruckmühle, which gives a connection to the border triangle Bavaria-Austria-Czech Republic.
With the connections via the Ohetal cycle path to Vilshofen an der Donau and the Danube-Bavarian Forest cycle path, there are two further connections that can be excellently combined with the Danube-Ilz cycle path to make an appealing and exciting day tour or a 2- To be able to design a day tour.
