Fritz Reuter, a great Low German poet, lived in Neubrandenburg from 1856 to 1863. Although Fritz Reuter only lived here for a short time, the building still bears the name Reuterhaus.
The important Low German writer Fritz Reuter (1810-1874) spent his most productive years in Neubrandenburg from 1853 to 1866/68. He lived there in four successive apartments. Only the house where he lived from 1859 to 1861 (today's Reuterhaus) has survived.
The "Café im Reuterhaus" (Café in the Reuterhaus) also no longer exists, although the illuminated sign on the facade suggests this. The Indian restaurant "Namaste" has since moved in. I don't think Fritz Reuter ever visited India, though... 🙂
