Much of the hilly area of the Reggello area is characterized by well-kept terraced crops with vineyards and olive groves, present since the 14th century. The olive tree, a fundamental crop of this area, is a characterizing element of the territory and profoundly marks its landscape. The land of these places produces excellent wine and oil renowned for its low acidity and particular organoleptic characteristics, due to the height of the olive groves (300 m) and the peculiarities of the land. It is a fairly unique terrain in Tuscany, with a very low content of limestone and a high content of quartz. The plants are mostly of the Frantoio and Leccino type, but there are also those of the Morellino and Pendolino type. Every year in Reggello, in November, the Review of Extra Virgin Olive Oil is held. There are numerous farms that directly produce and sell the prized Reggello Toscano PGI extra virgin olive oil, obtained by pressing both traditional and modern methods, in the various oil mills in the area.
