This field chapel is dedicated to St. Nicholas of Flüe - called Brother Klaus - and has a unique architecture. It has no windows. Light falls from above through the open ceiling and into the interior through the small light holes filled with glass.

A special place of prayer and meditation ...

The chapel is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in summer and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in winter, and is closed on Mondays.

This is not a silo but an ultra-modern chapel that scores with its apparent simplicity. On the outside, a roughly formed rectangular concrete block, from which a triangular stainless steel door - with a thickness of almost 20 cm a real safe door - clearly stands out. If you enter the building, you will be amazed by the filigree exposed concrete ribs (with sticks as formwork) with their many glass balls: the concrete block suddenly becomes a tent with a small opening at the top. It can and should rain in here, creating a small pool of water in the middle of the room. It is fascinating how the materials concrete, glass, wood and water were coordinated with each other. Anyone who enters this chapel shakes off the rough life (concrete) and finds security (water, dimmed light, flares) and of course a small altar.
There were a few young people in front of and in the chapel, all very quiet. As I started driving again, a group of Buddhists approached the chapel. This is ecumenism!

The chapel has since become a magnet for visitors.
The chapel itself has become somewhat brighter over the years, and there is no longer any smell of the burnt wooden structure that supported the interior during construction and was burned to create the interior. The chapel was designed by the renowned architect Zumthor and built between 2005 and 2007. It is made of rammed concrete, and the individual layers are clearly visible from the outside. As already mentioned, the interior was previously supported with tree trunks, which were then burned from below after completion.
