With a maximum depth of 124 m, Lake Molveno is the deepest lake that lies entirely on Trentino soil. Its average depth is 47 m. In addition, the 4.5 km long and 1.5 km wide Molveno lake is the largest natural alpine lake above an altitude of 800 m. The surrounding mountains of the Brenta group are reflected in its water, which has various shades of color the Paganella massif. Numerous streams and rivers from these mountain ranges flow into the lake, which is surrounded by dense forests. Due to its blue-green color nuances, the shore and the lake seem to merge. The beauty of this lake has already been praised by the poet Antonio Fogazzaro, who described it as “a noble stone in an even more noble case”.
Lake Molveno is also known for its diverse fish population. Fishermen will be happy, because trout, char and perch are just some of the fish species that have their habitat in Lake Moveno. The lake got its name from the village of Molveno, which is known as a climatic health resort. This main town on the lake is in a picturesque location between the Brenta Group and the Paganella Mountains. Lake Molveno is also ideal for sailing - thanks to the “Ora del Garda” wind, which blows almost all day from March to October.
