    The present form of the church essentially goes back to the 15th century. Only the crypt, the fieldstone masonry of the western tower base and parts of the western wall of the nave can be seen from the Romanesque building, which was built around and after 1100. The vaults of the Gothic, four-bay, brick-built hall church had partially collapsed in 1645, had damaged the pulpit and smashed the organ, so that the remains of the vault were removed, and in 1696 the current beamed ceiling was installed and painted by Gerd von Bloh with the blue and white tendril paintings that are now uncovered again was decorated.

    The west tower also collapsed a few times and had to be renewed several times.

    On the south wall you can still see a bricked-up window, probably a hagioscope, a (leprosy column) through which those excluded from the service could take a look at the altar from 1637 and follow the celebration of mass.

        The St. Ulrichs Church in Rastede is now almost 1,000 years old. Originally, the church may have consisted entirely of granite blocks and boulders. Over time, however, it has been extended, rebuilt and repaired several times, so that today, above all, the brick characterizes the construction. This is especially true of the freestanding bell tower, which collapsed several times in the course of its history. The St. Ulrichs Church with its hall crypt can be visited every first Sunday as part of a public tour. For travel groups, individual appointments are also arranged.
        Currently it is closed until November 2019.
