Part of the Hardehausen wisent enclosure. The lowland bison are located here. The other part with the mountain bison is just a little further southeast on the Hammerbach. With a little luck, the impressive animals can be observed up close.

the bison enclosure is 170 hectares. The last wild bison in Germany was shot in 1755. In order not to let the largest land mammal in Europe become extinct, the Hardehausen bison enclosure was set up by the state forest management as early as 1958. Since 2004, both bison subspecies, the mountain bison and the lowland bison, have existed in separate enclosures - this is unique in Europe.
