Ivy Square was the site of the first modern cotton mill in Japan, built in 1889. The "Kurashiki Bosekijo" (Kurashiki Spinning Works) operates as a company under the name "KURABO Industries Ltd." until today in the textile industry.
The company »KURABO Industries Ltd.« has set up a museum in one of the former cotton warehouses, which shows the history of the company up to the present day.
Ivy Square also has other museums, restaurants and a hotel.
