      The nerve center of La Rochelle, the old port appears like a postcard.

      The Tour Saint-Nicolas and the Tour de la Chaîne mark the entrance to the port basin. The locks regulate the water in the harbor and also serve as stormwater storage.

      To enjoy it, nothing better than a walk on the quays and a stop in one of the many bars and restaurants of the Cours des Dames, the Quai Duperré or the Wooden Town.

                The entire area around La Rochelle ‘s inner harbour is worth a trip, let alone a stop. This is an excellent place to spend at least one night if not more when on a bike tour.
