The Royal Hunting Lodge in Schönbuch was built in 1888 on the Steingart plateau by the then Crown Prince Wilhelm II of Württemberg as a spacious log cabin.

His Royal Highness Prince Wilhelm of Württemberg had the "Schönbuch Hunting Lodge" - as the Royal Hunting Lodge was then called - built in 1888. It stands on the plateau of the rock garden and can probably be described as a "spacious log house". The hut was probably rather modest because the crown prince, who was thrifty, did not want to be accused of spending too much money, especially since after the secularization the abbot house in the former Bebenhausen monastery under King Friedrich had already been converted into a royal hunting lodge.
The Königsjagdhütte immediately became the favorite place of the hunting scene of the prince crowned king of Württemberg on October 6, 1891. The king received important messages via the postman route when he was at the royal hunting lodge.
Nevertheless, despite the not too splendid equipment, it quickly became the social center of the hunting scene. The view extends over the Wurmling chapel to the Swabian Jura. The signal oak stands in the area; the predecessor of the same name to this tree stood outside the current enclosure.

Today the Königsjagdhütte is a popular excursion destination that can be easily reached from all directions.
