A carpet of grass has spread over the white Baltic Sea sand of the past. But now there are new plans for the once so popular shore of Scharmützelsee, and locals and guests may soon be able to swim and relax again like generations of lake lovers once did. The owner, Artprojekt Real Estate GmbH, has concrete plans for what will happen next with the Neptunbad. The company has already completed the Marina Apartments project in the neighborhood. A hotel is planned between the condominium and the beach. As soon as the necessary permits are in place, there will be sand in the beach area again. A lifeguard pier with an observation tower is also being discussed. In principle, it is said, Artprojekt is willing to build a public lido that will be supervised in the summer - with the necessary infrastructure such as changing rooms, showers and toilets.

The Neptunbad was a popular place to swim in Bad Saarow for decades. Its history goes back to 1927, when three partners acquired the Silberberg estate and the Saarow-Strand colony was created. Moor was removed and around 4,000 cubic metres of Baltic Sea sand was brought in for the 1,400 square metre beach. During the GDR era, the beach restaurant "Neptun", operated by the HO trading organisation, opened here on May 26, 1976, with a cellar bar, restaurant, hall and two terraces. More than a thousand guests found space, and annual sales amounted to up to two million East German marks. During the GDR era, the beach bath with boat rental was very popular with holidaymakers who recharged their batteries in the nearby company holiday camps and settlements. These buildings are now dilapidated, and nature has gradually reclaimed the area over the past thirty years. A huge lost place.
