The silted up church called St. Laurentius was estimated to have been built in the second half of the 14th century. At that time the church was the largest church in Vendsyssel. It gathered the congregation together for nearly four hundred years, until the destructive power of the sand lay over Kirchenstrasse and the cemetery. For many years the community fought against the sand - but in the end the fight against the sand was given up. In 1975 the congregation was forced to stop the service and close the church.

The tower has been a listed building since 1903 and can even be visited. To do this, you first have to climb a very narrow spiral staircase. Once you have overcome this it is easier.

In the middle of the dunes, only the church tower can be seen, which protects the original, buried in the sand church. You can visit the old walls and climb the tower, from which you have a beautiful view over the dune landscape. I was then allowed to attend a wedding at the church. A great experience.
