The Moresnet viaduct is a 1200 metre long railway bridge over the Geul valley in Moresnet. It is one of the most famous railway bridges in Belgium. The bridge is part of railway line 24 (Montzenroute Antwerp-Aken), which was specially built for the transport of German artillery and troops to the front during the First World War in 1915-1916. The viaduct was renovated between 2002 and 2005. The bridge sections were replaced and the pillars were restored. The bridge connects to the Gemmenichertunnel in the east, which passes under the Vaalserberg. In the west lies the railway yard of Montzen station with the Remersdaal Tunnel behind it.

The viaduct consists of 22 steel double-track bridge sections, supported by 2 abutments, 5 support pillars and 16 ordinary pillars made of stamped concrete (a new technique at the time). Each of the bridge sections is 48 metres long and weighs approximately 260 tonnes.

The bridge is an important link in international freight traffic. It connects the German Aachen with the port of Antwerp and is located near the Montzen marshalling yard. The Moresnet bridge is therefore important for Belgium for its trade relations with Germany and with countries in Eastern Europe. Every day, 80 to 90 freight trains pass here in both directions.

The Göhltal Viaduct, also known as the Moresnet Viaduct, is a railway viaduct on the Montzen route in the district of Moresnet Village in the Belgian town of Plombières. The bridge spans the valley of the Göhl with a total length of 1107 meters and over the Göhl a greatest height of approximately 52 meters. The route has a gradient of 1.8 percent towards Aachen in the area of the bridge and approximately one quarter of the bridge length is in the plan in an arc with 1600 meters radius (Wikipedia).

The Geuldal Viaduct in Moresnet spans the Geuldal near Moresnet with a total length of 1,107 meters and a height of 52 meters. Adder, it was the longest railway bridge of the Belgian railway network. The viaduct is part of the connection between the German Ruhr area and the port of Antwerp. It was built during the German occupation of Belgium in World War I by order of the German military authorities. About 14,000 workers and prisoners of war were used for the construction. Many of them did not survive the heavy and dangerous work. The structural work was completed in an unimaginably short period of seven months. The viaduct was destroyed by Belgian soldiers in 1940 during the Second World War to prevent the German troops from advancing. The viaduct was repaired under the renewed German occupation, but was destroyed again in 1944 by German soldiers, this time to prevent the advance of Allied troops. By the end of the 20th century, about 70% of the freight traffic between the port of Antwerp and Germany was carried over the viaduct. Today about 80-100 freight trains run over the viaduct daily, mostly at night.
