The Virton Tourist Information Office welcomes you to the heart of the Gaume region and invites you to discover this charming town in the province of Luxembourg. You can find them at the following address: Rue des Grasses Oies, 2b, Virton. Please note: closed on Sundays and Mondays. Open other days from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM and from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

Under the NATO agreements, the air forces across the Atlantic established strategic bases in Europe, including Marville, in the Meuse department (France). In 1955, Virton, like Florenville and Longuyon in France, welcomed hundreds of Canadian military pilots from the 1st Wing seeking refuge for themselves and their families. The Canadian period was deeply affecting the lives of the residents of Virton, and such strong bonds of friendship were forged that a celebration was organized for their departure on March 11, 1967. The totem from Canada that they presented to Virton and Longuyon in France was a special sign of recognition and gratitude for the excellent way in which the residents had welcomed the Canadians. This gesture has special significance, as totems held a deeper meaning among Native Americans. In 1992, the original totem, which had been severely damaged, was recreated identically by Claude Goffinet and inaugurated on October 30th. (Visit Wallonia)

🏰 **Château de Cons-la-Grandville – A Journey Through the Centuries** The imposing castle of **Cons-la-Grandville**, near the border with Luxembourg, combines Romanesque origins with Renaissance and Baroque architecture. Built on the foundations of a Gallo-Roman villa, it was expanded and remodeled several times from the 11th century onwards. Particularly worth seeing: the Romanesque cloister, the elegant façade, and the magnificent courtyard. 🕰️ The château was the residence of the noble de Cons family, later also a monastery, and has been lovingly restored. Today it is a listed monument and open to visitors. **Tip:** Be sure to visit the cloister – one of the oldest preserved of its kind in Lorraine. Ideal as a stopover on the way between France and Luxembourg.

On the edge of a wooded massif, where the climate is favorable for growing wine, lies Torgny, Belgium's southernmost village. The houses here, built of yellow sandstone with Roman roof tiles, are striking, lending a Mediterranean flair. A truly beautiful sight. No wonder this place is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Wallonia.

PLEASE NOTE: on this - beautiful - circuit, after the village of Alondrelle, the path as mentioned on this circuit has become impassable between the meadows. If you go further, from the entrance to the woods towards Torgny, the path is not very suitable for vehicles or even almost impassable by bike if it has rained a lot! A mountain bike is essential!

This colorful and impressive sculpture was donated by the Canadian airmen who stayed at Virton in 1955, as part of the NATO agreement. The totem symbolizes friendship and gratitude between Canadians and the local population, who welcomed them warmly. The original totem, carved by Pacific Coast Indians from a fir tree, was resculpted in 1992 by Claude Goffinet, a local artist. You can admire the totem in rue des Grasses Oies, near the Maison du tourisme de Gaume. It is a remarkable work of art and history that tells a story of cross-cultural exchange and hospitality.
