The four-aisled St. Mary's Church is one of the most important late Gothic hall churches in Saxony. Construction began around 1400 and was completed around 1480. It boasts rich furnishings of high artistic quality, including the St. Mary's Altar (1519), St. Michael's Altar (1498), and the pulpit (1564) by the Kamenz painter Andreas Dreßler. The Andreas Fountain is located in the southwestern part of the market square. It is probably one of the oldest fountains in the city and has a depth of approximately 10.80 m and a diameter of approximately 2 m. With a water depth of approximately 7 m measured in 2004, this corresponds to a water capacity of approximately 22 m³. Dr. Andreas Günter, once mayor of Kamenz, had the fountain built at his own expense in 1570 out of love for his hometown. The main church of St. Marien in Kamenz, a hall church, was built in 1430, in 1450 it received a vault and around 1500 the brick gable. Restorations took place in 1887, 1908 and most recently in 1992. It is thankfully one of the few churches open to visitors.

In 1570 the then mayor of Kamenz, Dr. Andreas Günther, decorate this fountain out of love for his home town. He is a real gem for today's marketplace. Another beautiful sight on Martplatz is the town hall.

Very nice fountain on the market place of Kamenz. The fountain was built around 1570 in late Renaissance style. The structure consists of three columns in Doric order with rounded fluting. A canopy-like structure rests on them, which bears circumferential references to the donor in antiqua script. The coats of arms of Kamenz, the Kingdom of Bohemia and the German Empire are sculpted on each side, with putti figures at the corners. The fountain is crowned by a Justitia with a sword and scales, as a symbol of justice. Collaboration with the Dresden sculptor Christoph Walther II (1534–1584) is not ruled out. Comparable fountains are known from Gregor Richter in Leipzig and Oschatz.[1] The founding of the Andreasbrunnen can be traced back to the Oberlausitzer Pönfall of 1547, during which the member towns of the Upper Lusatian Six Towns League, including Kamenz, were levied high monetary tributes and many privileges, including court and market rights, were revoked. Only in 1562 could the privileges be partially restored, which is also attributed to the negotiating skills of the mayor of Kamenz, Günther.

Great church, it's open and that's very rare in Germany. You can also climb the tower, it's all free. A donation is always appropriate, for what you get offered also a matter of course.

The Hochstein is with its 449m, the highest elevation in the north-west Lusatian highlands. from Luxenburg (next restaurant) but also from Rammenau; Steina or Elstra can be easily reached on foot. But it should be sturdy shoes on this tour. A legendary summit stone which is also called a religious place of worship.

The hall church was built after 1430 and vaulted after 1450. Around 1500 the church received the brick gable. In 1793 the tower dome was renewed. In 1887 a restoration was carried out by Gotthilf Ludwig Möckel, who lost valuable pieces of equipment. In 1908, the galleries were converted by Woldemar Kandler. In 1992, renewed restoration work began (Wikipedia).
