Very cute little village, well renovated and maintained, with a nice set up, both on the cliffs with incredible "basaltic columns", and down by the river. There is a nice bar & restaurant, l'Embuscade, where you need to book ahead if you wanna eat there!

In addition to the beautiful views of the river and the castle of Saint-Ilpize, it has several businesses, including a hotel-restaurant. In the village, a giant flea market awaits you. The past of Val d'Allier is an atypical boutique which conceals many treasures.

This castle is definitely worth a visit. From this ancient fortress, you will have an incredible view of the village of Saint-Ilpize and Villeneuve d'Allier. Its strategic position allowed the Dauphins of Auvergne to monitor the Allier gorges.
