The medieval church of Saint-Laurent, a historic site, offers magnificent views of the lake, especially at sunset.

Around the end of October, when the lake's water level is at its lowest, the foundations of the houses in Champaubert-aux-Bois are visible again. The village was demolished and flooded in 1974.

This is the supply canal from the Marne to the lake, the canal is 12 kilometers long.

Great trail with good surface and great view of Lac du Der

Lake Der is connected to the Marne and Blaise rivers by 20 kilometres of restitution and supply canals. These linear infrastructures contrast with the rugged shapes of the banks of the body of water.

Beautiful little footbridge to cross the canal at its entrance into the Der reservoir. To the north you have a panoramic view of the canal as far as the eye can see, and to the south you can see the dam.

Saint Lawrence, to whom this church in Giffaumont-Champaubert is dedicated, is one of the early Christian martyrs from a time when Christianity was still forbidden. He was the Pope's archdeacon and was asked by the pagan emperor Valerian to hand over the church's treasure. Lawrence asked for three days, during which time he distributed the church assets among the poor inhabitants of Rome and, after the agreed time, came to the emperor with the poor to present them to him as the treasure of the church. He was then martyred to death, the legend says that his body was roasted alive on a grate - this attribute can be seen in many depictions of Saint Lawrence - over coals. He is said to have been in good spirits and told his executioner on the one hand whether he wanted to turn him around. Saint-Laurent's memorial day in the calendar of saints is August 10th, the date of his traditional death in the year 258.
