A surprising place... immense and imposing. The monks lived on the other side of the vast church. That part is gone, but the place still inspires silence.

6月 19, 2025, Voie Verte de la Vallée de l'Epte
Pleasant, cool, shaded, to do during the week, not crowded! On the other hand, avoid on weekends and by bike, pedestrians don't pay attention, dogs are at granny's, children are not kept in check... etc. 28 km of flat.

The church of Mont-Rôty, from the 17th and 18th centuries, is dedicated to Saint Madeleine, symbol of the repentant sinner. Its porch is made of brick and its nave is made of brick and flint. The bell tower has 3 bells and has a pointed spire like many in the Pays de Bray. Its apse and transept are made of brick and slate. Inside, it is the woodwork that catches the eye (Romanesque vault, benches, stalls, altarpiece, etc.).

1月 21, 2025, Église Saint-Denis de Bazincourt
In the 11th century, a chapel was built by the prior of Bézu-le-Long, dependent on the abbey of Croix Saint-Leufroy, consisting of a nave of 5 bays lit by narrow lancets. A stone choir was added in the 12th century. Around 1335, the chapel became a parish church. Around 1780, it was enlarged by two bays and its direction was reversed. The entrance is now through the choir, itself installed in the western part. Large bays were opened at this time. The new choir is adorned with an altarpiece executed in 1760 by Jacques Carbonnier (from Gisors). The painting of the baptism of Christ is by Charles Jean Baptiste Duchêne, painter in Gisors

1月 21, 2025, Église Saint-Gervais-Saint-Protais
We know of Saints Gervais and Protais that they were Christian martyrs in the 2nd century in Milan. At the time, the Roman Empire forced all its subjects to worship the emperor, which was unacceptable to Christians. If they refused, they were crucified or sent to the arena to be devoured by lions between gladiatorial fights. Thus, Saint Ambrose, bishop of Milan, found them, in 386, buried side by side. This great bishop affirmed that they had been martyrs by fidelity to their baptism. He even added "They are of a prodigious size, such as one was in ancient times." Their cult reached Gaul where a large number of churches were dedicated to them.

1月 21, 2025, Parc Mondory
At a recent city council meeting, the city decided to rename this park Michel Lejeune after the former mayor of Forges who died two years ago. Michel Lejeune particularly liked this place, which was long called Mondory, after a 17th century theater actor.

10月 11, 2024, Parc Mondory
The park of the Hôtel de Ville, also called Parc Mondory, houses two pavilions: the Oratory of Anne of Austria and the Guardhouse. The original building, made of ferruginous sandstone, brick and half-timbering, dates from the 17th century. It was located on the site of the current Hôtel de Ville. Owned by Le Vaillant, a master glassmaker, it was one of the most beautiful houses in the town. Thanks to its size and location, it was chosen to accommodate the King of France Louis XIII and Queen Anne of Austria during their cure in 1633. During this royal stay, the local nobility and the Deputation of the Parliament of Rouen presented themselves to the King. Leisure activities occupied an important place: hunting, theater, etc. The famous Mondory and his troupe were brought from Paris. He presented three plays: Mélite, Clitandre and la Veuve by Pierre Corneille. The latter took advantage of this to draw the attention of the Cardinal and thus obtain his protection. In memory of this episode, the park of the Hôtel de Ville bears the name Parc Mondory.

9月 22, 2024, Église Saint-Gervais-Saint-Protais
The parish church of Saint-Gervais Saint-Protais was consecrated in 1119 by Pope Calixtus 11. This Romanesque church saw its nave ravaged by fire in 1123. It was rebuilt in 1160. Thanks to funding from Queen Blanche of Castile, the people of Gisors built a Gothic choir, consecrated in 1249. It was built according to the Chartres model, common at the time in Ile-de-France, with a three-level elevation: large arcades, triforium and high windows pierced with oculi. Thanks to funding from charitable brotherhoods and trade corporations, the church underwent multiple transformations from the end of the 15th century with the addition of radiating chapels and an ambulatory at choir level. Entrusted to the Grappins, a family of architects from Vexin, the work continued in the 15th century with the reconstruction of the nave and the chapels of the side aisles in flamboyant Gothic style, then of the façade decorated with Renaissance motifs.

9月 10, 2023, Abbatiale de Saint-Germer-de-Fly
With a length of 62 meters and almost 20 meters of height under the vault, the Saint-Germer Abbey presents itself in all its beauty. Its plan includes a long central nave of eight fairly narrow bays, a projecting transept and a single-span choir followed by an apse with ambulatory and five (now three) contiguous radial chapels. The façade superimposes four levels: large porticoes, stands, rectangular openings that pierce the roof spaces of these and high windows.

8月 21, 2023, Château de La Roche-Guyon
The Potager-Verger du Château de la Roche Guyon is a French-style vegetable and fruit garden that is open to the public and allows you to stroll through this wonderful place. The garden faces the Château de la Roche-Guyon, a medieval castle built on a limestone cliff overlooking the Seine. The garden was created in the 17th century by Madeleine Le Tellier de Louvois, wife of François VIII de La Rochefoucauld, first Duke of La Roche-Guyon. The garden has 675 fruit trees, including pear, apple, peach and plum trees, as well as vegetables and aromatic plants. The garden was restored in 2004, after being abandoned for nearly a century. It has received the Remarkable Garden label from the Ministry of Culture.

The village has a bakery which notably offers sandwiches which you can then go and taste in the small square next to the Abbey Church; to access it you have to pass under the porch that overlooks the main square. This site being located halfway between Paris and Dieppe, it has become like a little ritual when I do this route. Once this break is over, we can say to ourselves that we will be able to attack again to go to Normandy...

In the heart of the Pays de Bray, in Oise, we find this magnificent abbey whose dimensions contrast with the size of the village. We understand its importance when we know that it is the oldest abbey of French Gothic art. Brightness, grandeur and beauty in a single building!
