From this point you have a good view of the former youth hostel building on Kahlenberg from the Ruhr cycle path. However, the history goes back even further, as there was a restaurant there from 1890 onwards, as the banks of the Ruhr were already inviting people to stroll. After its use as a youth hostel was discontinued and the building became a listed building, it was converted in 2010 and luxury apartments were set up.

The former Kahlenberg youth hostel is located above the banks of the Ruhr in Mülheim in an idyllic and almost picture-perfect location. The almost 125-year-old building is a listed building and was restored in a complex process and converted into luxurious condominiums. The youth hostel operations were discontinued in 2010 after 58 years, but the postcard motif of the Kahlenberg with dense forests and a monument should be preserved. St. Lawrence (Mintard) The parish church of St. Laurentius was built in the second half of the 12th century in connection with the founding of the parish. The oldest parts of the furnishings date from the end of the century: the Theophilus bell[1] and the baptismal font made of Namur blue basalt.[2] The church tower is no older either. The opinion that a parish church existed in Mintard as early as the 9th century is based on the so-called Regenbirgische Charter, which was dated to 873. This document has been proven to be a forgery from around 1200 since 1909.[3] The Laurentius patronage was only documented in the 16th century.[4] What the church looked like before the reconstruction in 1660/61 could only be discovered through excavation. There is no evidence of changes in the 14th century[5] claimed in the literature. In 1302/1303 the parish church was incorporated into Gerresheim Abbey - the abbess already had patronage beforehand - which, among other things. meant loss of part of the parish's income. In 1660/61 the church was rebuilt after the destruction of the Thirty Years' War. During the Second World War it was so destroyed by an aerial mine on July 22, 1942 that it had to be closed by the authorities. After temporary repairs, it was inaugurated again on Epiphany 1946 and thus used for church services. In 1961 the 300th anniversary of the current church was celebrated. The parish's affiliation with the pastoral care area of Kettwig/Mintard, the Deanery of Ratingen and the Archdiocese of Cologne did not change when Mintard was incorporated into the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr in 1975, since the parish boundaries were established when the diocese of Essen was established in 1956 and with the incorporation has not been changed; they continue to be based on the political administrative boundaries that were valid when they were established.
