A castle-palace of the Dukes of Anjou in the 19th and 19th centuries, the Château de Saumur, where King René resided, is the last example of the princely palaces built by the Valois dynasty. It served as the residence of the city's governors, a prison, and later an arms and ammunition depot. It was purchased by the city in 1906 to house the municipal museum, now the Musée de France. Magnificent viewpoint

Fortress built in the mid-11th century, it was rebuilt in the 17th century by the Carmelite monks who founded their monastery there. It became a private house after the revolution and, as the oldest building in the city, was converted into the town hall in the early 20th century.
