The Stuckenpfad trail near Herford is a family-friendly circular hiking trail that leads through the Stuckenberg nature reserve in the east of the city. This approximately 74-hectare woodland area lies on the hills between Herford and Vlotho and is characterized by its diverse deciduous and mixed forests with ancient trees, deadwood areas, and a rich variety of wildlife. Among other species, rare bats such as the greater mouse-eared bat and Bechstein's bat live here, highlighting the ecological value of the area. The roughly eight-kilometer-long Stuckenpfad trail was developed in cooperation with schools and is particularly well-suited for families with children. Along the way, numerous information panels, small activities, and color-coded trail markers make the walk a playful nature experience. The route follows well-maintained forest paths and has only gentle inclines, making it easily accessible even for inexperienced hikers.

"Karlchen's Backstube" in Vlotho has been a truly unique gem of a café with an outdoor terrace since 2023. The ambiance of the historic station building is impressively beautiful. 🍀‼️ Since 1992 (when Deutsche Bahn ended its use and sold it to a private individual, and it has been owned by the city of Vlotho since 2007), it had stood empty for years and was seemingly hopelessly abandoned to neglect and decay, or even threatened with demolition. Now, the listed brick building from the imperial era (built in 1875 for the opening of the Löhne-Hildesheim-Vienenburg railway line, with the two side wings added in 1909) shines in its former glory. And it's full of life again.👍 Because the café here is extremely popular, especially among cyclists.🚴🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️😊

It's the Kronprinzenbrücke, the central Werre River crossing in Löhne. It leads directly into the so-called "traffic-calmed zone" of Lübbecker Straße (a peculiar mixture of pedestrian zone and car access route), Löhne's main shopping street. The view of the historic stone arch bridge from the west is unfortunately somewhat obscured by a pipeline running parallel to it.

A local baker has painstakingly and beautifully restored the station. There are lovely seating areas and delicious treats to enjoy.

Addition Instead of the dam, a stone slide will take over the function here. Fish will be able to use this to swim, absorbing current.

Renaturation work hasn't begun yet. Once completed, the picture will be completely different. In addition, the old bridge and dam are to be demolished.

The former "Motor-Technica-Museum Babbenhausen" (also known colloquially as the "Automuseum Bad Oeynhausen" or "Militaria-Museum"), Weserstraße 225, 32547 Bad Oeynhausen, has been closed for at least ten years. Military aircraft, civilian aircraft, helicopters, military vehicles, tanks, a red London double-decker bus, and more were once densely packed around the outdoor area. Some of these have long since been removed over the years. The rest is rusting and rotting. Evidently, no new user has been found for this site to date. If you like the morbid charm of such places, go see it. Others (myself included) consider it more of an eyesore that should be removed as soon as possible.
