Welcome to the historic half-timbered town of Hallenberg. With its narrow, winding streets, notable monuments and churches, such as the parish church of St. Heribert and the pilgrimage church of the Assumption of Mary, the old town, with its almost 800-year history, invites you to linger.

St. Heribert's Church was built around 1250 as a parish church for the recently founded town of Hallenberg. It is a late Romanesque hall church with three naves and a square choir. The almost completely preserved Renaissance mural from 1558 is considered unique in Westphalia. It's beautiful to see from the inside—be sure to visit the church when it's open. Highly recommended.

Hallenberg is a rural town in the Rothaar Mountains and belongs to the Hochsauerland district in North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany). It is the smallest municipality in Westphalia by population and the second smallest town in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Hallenberg was founded by the Archbishop of Cologne, Konrad von Hochstaden, as a border fortress and remained a farming town well into the 20th century.
