Turuntie is a key regional road running through Southwest Finland, historically connecting Turku with inland towns like Loimaa and further to Tampere. For cyclists, especially those with trekking or cross bikes, it's a practical route with varied scenery - fields, forests, and traditional villages. While parts of the road are busier near larger towns, many stretches are quieter and suitable for touring. If you're heading to places like Reppuniemi Open-Air Museum in Pöytyä, Turuntie offers direct access, but it's best to wear high-visibility clothing and stay alert, particularly on sections without a separate cycle lane.

Reppuniemi Open-Air Museum in Pöytyä presents a collection of 13 historic buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries, including a smoke sauna, windmill, blacksmith’s workshop, and soldier’s croft. The buildings were relocated here starting in the 1960s, creating an authentic rural environment that’s open to visitors free of charge. In summer, the site also hosts performances by the local amateur theatre group, during which access to the area may be limited. The location is easily reached by trekking or cross bike via Turuntie, and the natural surroundings make for a pleasant cycling stop.

Koskipirtti and Museotalo in Aura offer an immersive historical experience into rural Finnish life and craftsmanship. Located just off Highway 9 between Turku and Tampere, the site is easily reachable by bike, especially from the centre of Aura, only 1.5 km away. Koskipirtti, a sturdy 1860s manor outbuilding, and the former dairy-turned-Museotalo showcase authentic architecture and a wide collection of artefacts and interiors from the early 20th century. This attraction is suitable for all ages and provides a well-preserved glimpse into past everyday life. A trekking or cross bike is ideal for exploring the quiet surrounding countryside.

Kotiseutumuseo Kivimakasiini in Oripää is a small local museum showcasing 19th-century rural life through everyday tools, household items, and festive artefacts like church silks. Visitors can also explore the unique Äären Kauppamuseo, a recreation of a general store that served the community for five decades, and see a small exhibition of historical banking items. Entry is free during normal opening hours (Sundays from June to August, 12:00–14:00), and guided tours are available for groups. The museum is located near the village centre and easily accessible by bike; a trekking or cross bike is ideal for the local roads. Remember that the nearby library, which provides information, is closed in July.

Kuuvannokka is a scenic rocky headland in Turku offering wide views over the Airisto sea area. It’s a rare example of an undeveloped coastal cliff still accessible to the public, making it a great nearby getaway. You can reach it via a short and easy walk, about a kilometre from the nearest car park, using either a quiet road or a nature trail. The spot also features historical rock carvings and was once a popular celebration site for Turku’s university students over a century ago. Although not directly bike-accessible to the tip, it’s easy to leave your bike nearby and continue on foot.
