The "Moinho das Cabras" (Goat Mill) in Alvito is one of several traditional windmills in the region, part of a group that today marks the rural landscapes. They are symbols of wind energy used in grain milling, built in the late 19th/early 20th century, and today form part of historical trails, such as the PR2 AVT, connecting to agricultural tradition and local cultural heritage. Head out on this 15.8-km loop trail near Alvito, Beja District. Generally considered a moderately challenging route. This trail is great for mountain biking, running, and bike touring, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas. Trilho dos Moinhos do Alvito (PR2 AVT) is part of the pedestrian walkways, which have seen a strong increase in recent years in Portugal as a whole and in the Alentejo Region in particular. This route is made along rural paths of unpaved terrain, which present moderate unevenness, accentuated by the hills where the historic windmills and chapels with Fresco paintings still exist.
