It's nice to see what can be done with an old mill.

Fascinated by the unique light of this landscape between the sea and the Bodden, artists have been coming to this former fishing village for 125 years, transforming it into an artists' colony. The unique flair of this place, traditionally the cultural center of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst region, can be experienced in many exhibitions, such as the art museum or the Kunstkaten (art house), as well as at numerous events. The landscape also offers spectacular scenery: sandy beaches, steep shores, and the expansive Bodden landscape lie close together here. The previous mill was built in 1884 by Heinrich Niemann. It was equipped with sails for canvas covering and a cod end with which the mill head could be rotated. Pictures by the painters Elisabeth von Eicken and Carl Malchin bear witness to this. From the 1930s onwards, the mill gradually fell into disrepair; two sails had already been torn down.
