This is the RIEKERMOLEN. Not the Sloten Mill.

The Bosbaan, built in 1937, is the oldest artificial rowing course in the world and a popular place for rowing training and competitions. From the shore near the restaurant you can often see rowers training hard or competing here. Follow the paths along the water to experience the activity up close, or walk further into the Amsterdamse Bos for a peaceful walk through nature.

Old mill still remains young

The Rieker Mühle is located on the edge of the Amstelpark, near the Amstel River. The Amstel, Gooi and Vecht Water Board has been the owner since 1997. Before it was the Municipality of Amsterdam. Not far from the mill is a monument to Rembrandt, who painted many pictures along the Amstelufer.

Large windmill built in 1636 to drain the surrounding land. The mill originally stood in the Riekerpolder. When the mill had to be relocated due to the expansion of the Nieuwe Meer, the mill was given its current location.

Close to the Klein Kalfje, a statue of Rembrandt suddenly pops up. Not surprising: this was the place where the painter made many sketches – which he later finished in his studio. Originally, the adjacent mill stood in the Riekerpolder. When the mill had to be moved due to enlargement of the Nieuwe Meer, the mill was given its current location. “When I have guests from abroad, I always bring them here. Then I say: It doesn't get more Dutch than this: a windmill and the statue of Rembrandt.'

Beautiful large park forest with lots of water and grassy meadows. Lots of cycle paths, sometimes winding, with very different quality of the asphalt. Don't forget the part south of the A9, much quieter and with some nice gravel paths.

Paid ferry across the Amstel river. Travel times in April and September are on weekends and public holidays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tours from May to August daily from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. A crossing costs 1 EUR in cash.
