The Ecology Station Association was founded in 1979. The site was bought by the city of Bremen in 1980 for around 1.4 million DM, and was initially managed by the Senator for Health and Environmental Protection. Over the years, the Ecology Station has been supported by several partners: the Senator for Education, the Ecology Station Association, the Senator for the Environment and the WWF Germany Environmental Foundation. The State Institute for Schools used the rooms in the villa and the garden for teaching purposes. An environmental laboratory was also set up there. In 1985, parts of the film Summer in Lesmona, based on the epistolary novel by Magdalene Pauli, were shot in the villa. Since the villa was sold, the association and the work of the Ecology Station have been limited to the Hofmeierhaus and – as far as it does not belong to the villa – the outdoor area.

Anyone in Leuchtenburg should definitely take a look at the manor house. Even though it's private property, it's definitely worth a look/photo from the street.

Nature is brought closer to children in particular on a small adventure trail. It's really a pity that some stations of the path are getting a bit old.
