The marketplace is the heart of the Holzmindener. The square in its current size was created in the 19th century. No information is available on the medieval situation. The town hall and the brewery once stood here. Both buildings were demolished in 1821 and 1858. The large fountain in the middle of the square, which was built at the end of the 19th century when the first water supply was installed, was extensively restored for the city's anniversary in 1995. The city relief on the sandstone base, designed by the sculptor Egbert, was erected to the south-east on the edge of the market square on the occasion of the 750th anniversary, the confirmation of city rights. It shows the old town of Holzminden in 1995. In the north-east corner of the square, the peasant rests: the bronze sculpture depicts a farmer and is reminiscent of the time when many residents were also active in agriculture in addition to their trades due to the economic situation.
