Trails at their finest! Perfect as a training route for trail events or just for a leisurely Sunday run. Just remember to lift your feet in time, otherwise the washing machine and your tetanus shot will have their work cut out for them... I don't know what it's like here in winter, but feel free to write in here. When it rains in spring, the paths are damp but not too slippery, and I can imagine that in summer, even at midday and in the heat, it's nice and shady and still significantly cooler than the surrounding open terrain.

History The station was opened in 1865 with the Almelo–Salzbergen railway line. In 1895, the Bentheim District Railway line from Bentheim to Neuenhaus was opened, with Bentheim Nord station located northeast of the state railway station. In 1908, this line was extended south to Gronau, with a bridge crossing the state railway to the west of the station. In the 1950s, Gildehaus station was closed. Since then, Bad Bentheim has been the last German station before the border with the Netherlands. Border police and customs officers checked passengers on cross-border trains here until the second Schengen Agreement abolished border controls between the participating states. Since the line was fully electrified in 1976, the Dutch traction current system with 1500V DC and the German system with 15kV AC at 16.7Hz have converged at this station. This facilitates operational management.

WELCOME TO THE BENTHEIMER HOF The Bentheimer Hof is located in a former train station building dating back to 1898 and once belonged to the Bentheimer Eisenbahn AG, which was founded in 1895. The building was later used as a lounge and stables. In 1997, the building was purchased by the former operators, Irene and Jelle Alssema, from the Bentheimer Eisenbahn and lovingly renovated. A second floor was added to the building and a beautiful winter garden was built. In July 2023, the hotel was taken over by your long-time employee and former operations manager, Michel Danisch. Our hotel offers 25 rooms, and our restaurant can accommodate 60 people. The entire interior, including the leaded glass and stucco ceilings, was carefully crafted, partly by hand.
